Publishing Workflows

Auto Post from a YouTube video

Reuse a public YouTube video's available metadata and captions in recurring social or blog content.

A post moving into a publishing calendar

Use this source to reuse one public video's available information in social posts or blog drafts. For example, turn an existing tutorial into a weekly practical tip that links readers back to the video. This workflow does not automatically subscribe to every future upload on the channel.

Open the Auto Post dashboard and choose YouTube.

Set up the video workflow

  1. Choose social or blog destinations and the YouTube Video source.
  2. Paste the public video URL and choose Check source. A private, deleted, age-restricted or otherwise inaccessible video may not provide usable source information.
  3. Add a brief explaining the audience, angle, language and desired action. State whether you want a short takeaway, a promotional introduction or a longer explanation.
  4. Review the available source and first output. Keep the video's link and attribution where useful. Check factual claims and any quotation against the actual video.
  5. Choose media, connected destinations, publishing presets and the recurring schedule. Review required approvals, start time, time zone and end date.
  6. Save the reviewed workflow and inspect its first channel results.

What information is available?

Postly attempts to read the video's public metadata and available captions. Metadata and the watch page are requested concurrently to reduce avoidable waiting. Caption availability depends on YouTube and the video's settings; a public video does not guarantee readable captions.

If only metadata is available, the workflow identifies that limitation in its generation instructions. A title and channel name do not establish what a speaker said, prove a detailed explanation or justify invented quotations. Review the output as a limited adaptation, rather than a verified transcript or complete summary of the video.

Timing and resource use

Each scheduled occurrence can create a fresh variation from the same video, even when the video has not changed. Use a slower schedule if you only need occasional reuse. This is different from RSS monitoring, which looks for a new feed item before generating.

Overlapping public source reads can share an in-flight request. Completed article and metadata responses are not retained as a source cache for a later occurrence. Selected AI text, images and normal destination publishing can use their respective allowances. Pause a finished campaign to prevent future generation.

Troubleshooting

Open the video without signing in to check its public availability. If captions are missing, use a more limited brief or choose a document source containing text you have reviewed. If the source cannot be read safely, Postly reports a source error instead of sending the previous occurrence's content. Check history before retrying a failed or uncertain publication.

See Auto Post timing and resource use for schedules, approvals and resource limits across all six sources.
