Facebook and Instagram DM & comment automation

Give every request a useful response, without writing the same message again. Choose the trigger that fits your audience, deliver what they asked for, and keep your team close to the conversation.

Instagram DM automation

Turn an incoming Instagram message into the answer someone came for. Match a keyword or phrase, then send your saved response with a guide, offer, booking link, or product details. Create a separate rule for the Instagram professional account you want to use.

Example: A visitor messages CAMPAIGN GUIDE. Your keyword rule replies with the guide URL and a useful follow-up question.

Add Instagram conversation starters so visitors can tap a question linked to an active DM automation.

Instagram comment-to-DM automation

Invite people to comment a distinctive keyword on an eligible post. Postly can match that incoming comment and send a private reply with the requested resource. Add an optional public reply to keep the conversation clear.

Example: Your post says: Comment GUIDE for the campaign checklist. A matching comment triggers the configured private reply.

Comment rules apply account-wide to eligible incoming comments, including posts published outside Postly. Review keyword overlap and test the exact message format.

Facebook Messenger auto-replies

Respond to matching incoming Facebook Page messages with a keyword reply. Share a resource, answer a recurring question, or point someone to the next step while keeping the conversation available in Postly CRM.

Example: Someone sends PRODUCT INFO to your Page. Postly replies with your product details and a link to learn more.

Facebook suggested questions are configured in Meta Business Suite. They can contain your Postly keyword; the Postly conversation-starter editor configures Instagram only.

Facebook comment automation

Use Facebook Page comment keywords to deliver requested information privately. Configure a private message and, if useful, a public reply for eligible incoming comments on the selected account.

Example: A person comments EVENT GUIDE. Your rule sends the event resource privately, ready for a person on your team to handle the next question.

A comment rule responds to new matching requests. It does not bulk-message previous commenters. Test Facebook comments separately from Messenger DMs.

Set up a reply people actually want.

  1. 01

    Connect and select your accounts

Connect your Facebook Page or Instagram professional account, then explicitly select and save it in CRM channels. Verify permissions before creating the rule.

  2. 02

Choose a trigger and a useful response

Create a DM or comment rule, enter a distinctive keyword, and add your reply with its real resource URL. Review the account, matching mode, and active hours.

  3. 03

    Activate, test, and follow up

Activate the rule and test from a separate personal account. Confirm the received message, check Automation activity, and keep a person available for follow-up questions.

A guide, an offer, a next step.

Use auto-replies for a creator’s free guide, a brand’s product information, or an event’s details. Keep the resource current at the same URL so your replies remain useful.

Keep the human conversation.

Auto-replies handle the repeatable first response. Postly CRM keeps the inbox, contact details, notes, and reminders together so your team can pick up the next question.

Auto-Replies questions, answered.

Can I automate both Instagram and Facebook replies?

Yes. Postly supports keyword DM replies and comment automations for connected Facebook Pages and Instagram professional accounts. Select the accounts in CRM channels and configure each platform’s rules separately.

Can an Instagram or Facebook comment trigger a private message?

Yes, for eligible incoming comments. Choose a comment keyword, enable Send a private message, and add the requested resource. Account permissions and platform messaging rules still apply; verify delivery from a separate personal account.

Can I send a guide or offer automatically?

Yes. Put the live resource URL in your reply. Use a distinctive keyword so the reply answers a specific request, and open the link before activating the rule. The campaign guide linked on this page is a working example.

Do auto-replies expire after seven days?

No. An active reply can continue until paused, subject to its configured schedule, account connection, permissions, and platform eligibility. The campaign guide’s optional weekly template does not set an expiry for the automation.

Are keyword replies case-sensitive?

No. Keyword matching is not case-sensitive. The matching mode still matters: a message containing a phrase differs from an exact-message match.

Does Postly configure conversation starters for both platforms?

Postly’s conversation-starter editor configures Instagram questions and links them to active DM automations. Facebook suggested questions are configured separately in Meta Business Suite; Facebook keyword replies work independently.

How do I know an auto-reply is working?

Check that the rule is active and the correct CRM channel is selected. Send the keyword from a separate personal account, confirm receipt, open the resource link, and inspect Automation activity. Test DMs and comments separately for each platform.
