Pinterest Pin checklist: board, image and destination link
Build a Pinterest Pin that matches its landing page, with a relevant board, useful description and checked destination URL.
By the Postly Team
Before you start
Have an appropriate board, a usable visual and a public landing page. The Pin should promise something the destination actually provides.
Prepare and review the release
- Choose the board for the reader's intent. A beginner knitting tutorial belongs with instructional content rather than an unrelated seasonal promotion.
- Write a specific title and description. Show the finished result in the image and keep any text readable at a small size.
- Set the Destination URL in Postly. When it is blank, Postly uses the first non-media link in the post text, so set it explicitly when the caption contains several links.
- Open the final destination on mobile and verify the article or product, not just a successful page load. After publication, inspect the Pin's board and click-through path.
Worked example
A garden store publishes 'A balcony herb planter for narrow railings'. The Pin links to the planter's detailed setup page, where the same photograph, dimensions and planting instructions appear. A seasonal campaign parameter identifies the Pin without replacing the canonical destination.
If something goes wrong
- Pin points to the wrong page: inspect Destination URL and the first non-media caption link.
- Product unavailable: pause or update promotion before sending readers to an unusable offer.
- Poor landing-page match: change the Pin's promise or build the missing instructions on the destination.
