Bluesky accessibility checklist for images and linked posts
Prepare Bluesky posts with meaningful image descriptions, clear language and links that still make sense without a visual preview.

Before you start
Gather the original images and identify what each contributes. A caption introducing a topic is different from alt text explaining information in an image.
Prepare and review the release
- Write a post that explains the point without relying on a link card. Include enough context for a reader to decide whether to open the destination.
- Describe each meaningful image where the composer supports alt text. For a chart, summarize its main comparison and provide a text version of essential values.
- Review the language and content-label options available for the post. Use accurate labels based on the media rather than as promotional tags.
- Open the published post and inspect the media, text and destination. For a multi-post conversation, check that replies follow the intended parent.
Worked example
A library shares a chart of extended opening hours. The caption announces the change; the image description states the days and hours, and the linked page contains the same schedule as text. People do not have to interpret colored bars to find closing time.
If something goes wrong
- Preview missing: make the caption useful on its own and inspect the landing page's metadata.
- Image description repeats the caption: replace it with information conveyed only by the image.
- Wrong reply parent: verify the conversation sequence before continuing it.
