Telegram channel checklist: permissions, formatting and buttons
Check the Telegram destination and bot access, review message formatting and links, and verify a channel announcement before a campaign.
By the Postly Team
Before you start
Know whether the destination is a channel or group and who administers it. The connected bot must have the permissions required for the intended action.
Prepare and review the release
- Confirm the exact destination in Postly. Ask the administrator to review bot membership and posting permissions if that destination is unavailable.
- Draft the announcement with a short opening and clear paragraphs. Preview formatting so punctuation and markup do not change the message unexpectedly.
- Review any interactive buttons supported in the composer. Use labels that describe the destination, and open each URL before scheduling.
- Publish an approved low-risk announcement first. Check the resulting message and button behavior in Telegram, then schedule the larger release.
Worked example
A course channel announces a new lesson. Its message gives the lesson title, estimated study time and one preparation task. The button says 'Open lesson 4' and goes directly to that lesson, not a generic homepage.
If something goes wrong
- Forbidden or permission failure: ask the channel administrator to review the bot's access.
- Broken formatting: simplify the message and inspect the chosen formatting options before retrying.
- Rate-limited delivery: respect the reported retry timing instead of repeatedly submitting the announcement.
