Ghost article release checklist: visibility and social previews
Review a Ghost article's audience, canonical URL, featured image and public preview before promoting it across social channels.
By the Postly Team
Before you start
Confirm the Ghost site and supported Postly connection. Know whether the article is public or intended for a restricted membership audience before writing promotional copy.
Prepare and review the release
- Choose the intended site and article status. Use the existing Ghost connection guide for credentials rather than copying a Content API key into an administrative publishing connection.
- Review the title, excerpt and featured image as a set. They should describe the same story when shared outside the publication.
- Check visibility and any canonical setting available for the article. If the full text requires membership, make that clear in the promotional post.
- Open the published URL in a signed-out session and inspect what a new visitor can read. Promote the article only after its access boundary matches the campaign.
Worked example
A newsletter publishes a public summary of a member-only interview. The social post links to the public summary and explicitly explains where membership is required. The editor verifies the signed-out experience instead of reviewing only an administrator preview.
If something goes wrong
- Publishing key rejected: use the connection guide and ask the site owner to check the integration.
- Unexpected paywall: inspect the article's visibility before changing the promotion.
- Old preview image: check the article's social metadata and allow the destination platform to refresh its cached preview.
