YouTube upload checklist: privacy, processing and release time
Prepare a YouTube release, check visibility and processing, and recover from a missed scheduled publication without uploading duplicates.

Before you start
Have the final video, channel access, a thumbnail you can use, and a release time with an explicit time zone. Keep a local master file until the published video has been checked.
Prepare and review the release
- Choose the connected YouTube channel in Postly and keep the title separate from the description. Put the video's actual subject in the title; reserve credits, context and destination links for the description.
- Review audience, privacy and subscriber-notification choices available for the upload. A private review copy and a public campaign release have different audiences, even when their files are identical.
- Schedule with enough time to inspect processing. YouTube Studio also supports changing a private video's scheduled release; check Studio before assuming that an accepted upload is publicly playable.
- After release, open the watch URL outside the channel's signed-in session. Check sound, thumbnail, captions and description links, then record that URL as the released asset.
Worked example
A workshop launches at 09:00 America/New_York. The team prepares the file the previous afternoon, reviews a private copy, and records the release as 09:00 in that named zone. The launch email uses the final watch URL only after a public playback check. This is an example release plan, not a promise about processing time.
If something goes wrong
- Video exists but is private: inspect visibility and the scheduled time in Studio before creating another upload.
- Processing continues: wait for the current upload's result and preserve its identifier; repeated submissions can create duplicate videos.
- Release date looks different: compare the scheduling time zone with YouTube's watch-page date convention.
