Instagram — Link-in-Bio (Publishing-Only)
Instagram-first workflow: attach one Destination Link per post, add a “Link in bio” callout and optionally a short link. Keep one static bio URL set manually in your Instagram profile.
How it works
- In the composer, add one Destination Link for your post.
- Keep one static Bio URL in your profile (set manually). Postly never edits your bio.
- Publish/cross-post. Postly places the link or a “Link in bio” callout per platform norms.
Platform specifics
- Caption links render as text; they aren’t clickable.
- Use a short link to keep the caption clean and cross-postable.
- Add “🔗 Link in bio” early in the caption for better skim visibility.
- Optionally mirror the link in the First Comment via Postly.
Best practices
- Place the “Link in bio” callout in the first 90–120 characters.
- Pin the comment (if your workflow includes manual moderation) to keep visibility high.
- Use consistent UTM tags for campaign tracking (if you shorten links, apply UTMs before).

Do / Don’t
Do
- Place the “Link in bio” callout in the first 90–120 characters.
- Pin the comment (if your workflow includes manual moderation) to keep visibility high.
- Use consistent UTM tags for campaign tracking (if you shorten links, apply UTMs before).
Don’t
- Don’t rely on long raw URLs; they’re not clickable and reduce readability.
- Don’t change your bio URL for each post—keep it static and let the Bio Page route traffic.
Common issues & fixes
- Issue: Viewers ask “where’s the link?”
Fix: Move “🔗 Link in bio” higher in the caption; echo in First Comment. - Issue: Caption truncation hides CTA
Fix: Keep the hook + CTA within the first line or two.
Postly tips
- Use the Destination Link preview to verify tracking params before publishing.
- If you cross-post, keep link text minimal so it fits platform limits.
- For Instagram-first campaigns, toggle First Comment and repeat the short link there.
FAQs
- Are links in captions always clickable?
- No. On some platforms (e.g., Instagram), caption links render as plain text. That’s why “Link in bio” is key. Postly never changes your bio; you set the static URL once.
- Should I use a short link?
- Short links reduce clutter, improve readability, and are friendlier across platforms with tight character limits.
- Where should I place my call to action?
- Lead with a simple CTA in the first line of your caption (e.g., “🔗 Link in bio for details”), then add context. Keep it skimmable.
- Does Postly auto-update my profile bio URL?
- No. This feature is publishing-only by design. You paste your static Bio URL manually in profile settings once.
- How many links per post?
- MVP supports one Destination Link per post for clarity and consistent cross-posting.
- Can Postly add the link in Instagram’s first comment?
- Yes—if you enable First Comment in the composer. It helps visibility where captions aren’t clickable.
- Do you change my profile bio link on this platform?
- No. Postly never edits profile bios. Keep one static Bio URL set manually; Postly ties links to individual posts.
- How many links can I attach to a post?
- MVP supports one Destination Link per post for clarity and consistent cross-posting.
- What’s the best way to highlight my link in the feed?
- Lead with a hook, add a clear CTA (e.g., “🔗 Link in bio”), and keep the link short. Consider reinforcing via first comment or pinned comment where supported.
- Should I repeat my CTA in comments?
- Yes—on platforms that support pinned comments (and for IG first comment via Postly), mirroring the CTA boosts visibility.
- Can I preview how the link will appear before publishing?
- Yes. Use the Destination Link preview in the composer. If you use short links, confirm the final redirect and UTMs before scheduling.
- Does Postly offer analytics for Link-in-Bio?
- Not in this scope. This feature focuses purely on publishing; many teams already rely on dedicated bio-link providers for analytics.
- Instagram captions are not clickable — how does this help?
- We add a “Link in bio” callout and you can include a short link. Users tap your profile → Bio URL → per-post link on your Bio Page.
