Connect your Telegram bot
The bot selected in Postly needs permission to publish in each group or channel. Your personal Telegram account’s permissions do not transfer to the bot.
Set up the connection
- In Postly, open Social accounts → Telegram. Choose the default @postly_bot or your connected custom bot. Note its exact username.
- In Telegram, open the destination and tap its name. Open its management settings, then Administrators → Add administrator. Find that exact bot and add it. Menu names vary by device.
- Give the bot the publishing permissions below, then save. You must own the destination or be an administrator allowed to manage administrators. Otherwise, ask its administrator to do this.
- Return to Postly and finish the connection instructions. Confirm the destination uses the same bot before scheduling.
Using your own bot?
If your plan or add-on includes custom bots, create one through @BotFather using /newbot. Enter its username and token in Postly’s custom bot form. Keep the token private. Adding a different bot to Telegram will not give the selected bot access.
Permissions you must grant
- Channels
- Make the selected bot an administrator and enable Post messages. This allows it to publish text and media to the channel.
- Groups and supergroups
- Postly’s connection flow requires the bot to be an administrator. If an already connected bot is a regular member, it needs Send messages and permission for each media type in your posts:
- Send photos for image posts.
- Send videos for video posts.
- Send GIFs / other messages for animations.
- Send files / documents for file attachments.
Check group permissions and any restriction applied specifically to the bot. A bot allowed to send text may still be blocked from sending photos. Only a Telegram administrator can change these permissions; Postly cannot grant them.

Test before importing a large batch
Publish one test post from Postly to the destination using the same media type as your planned posts. Confirm it appears in Telegram, then start your bulk upload or Google Sheets import. A successful text post does not verify photo or video permissions.
If you see “not enough rights to send photos,” ask the administrator to enable photo publishing for the selected bot. Allow up to 30 seconds for Postly’s permission check to refresh, then retry the rejected import or failed post. Changing permissions does not automatically resend failed posts.
If a post is queued, let it continue. If its status is unconfirmed, check Telegram before retrying to avoid duplicates. See publishing status and limits.
